We have to run transponders at several of the CA tracks we run regularly and, and frankly, haven't seen much difference in getting lineups on restarts being any more correct than at tracks without them. They aren't cheap either at around $300 for the hard wired ones, which last for a couple of years longer than the cheaper, more easily removed portable ones. Raceceivers are about a $150 deal and I,personally, don't care for things plugged into my old ears. My opinion.

i have been racing for many years without either of them....and i really didn't see much of a change at the Duel in the Desert when the Racecievers were required to be worn there, the guys only moved to the position they were supposed to be in when they were threatened with the black flag...to me they are just another cost to the racer and the track...i don't know about you guys but the cost of racing sure isn't getting ANY cheaper...its getting alot more expensive! Just my Opinion...Thanks

i think the racecievers would be an excellent choice not only for the the pace of how things go but also for driver safety. i would say go with them. when i was in north carolina, it made the racesquick and required it as a saftey device and every track there has them.

Transponders let you know your lap times. Some racers care, some don't. Some tracks with transponders upload during the race night. With a lap top you can get times and results in the pits, or in a couple of days after they are uploaded. I liked the raceceivers. It's hard to argue the safety advantage. I think both are usefull tools. The price is a bit scary, but we bit the bullet and have both. So either way is fine.

Raceciever would be ok i guess just won't wear my ipod lol. But would there be rental transponders available for those who can't afford one? They are both very pricey and I would rather spend the money on being able to get to the track.

Big Chris as you know it is already getting harder and harder to even keep the cars running, and make it to the race in this slow economic time , sponsors are not as willing to spend the money to help us keep coming week after week. I hope you will consider the advantages and disadvantages and keep the racers in mind. You are always reasonable and i Know that you will be in this case, lets keep it simple and somewhat affordable, thank you for all of your time.

I AGREE WITH RACER96 ITS COSTING MORE TO KEEP THE CARS GOING. I MY OPINION RACERS ARE JUST HERE FOR FUN AND NOT TO MAKE A LIVING FROM RACING....JUST KEEP IN MIND THE RACERS WANT TO HAVE FUN AND RACE AND ALL OF US HAVE OTHER BILLS TO PAY TO.... PRETTY SOON RACE TRACKS WONT HAVE RACERS CAUSE THEY CANT AFFORD EVERYTHING THE TRACK WANTS TO CHANGE.... I THINK YOU SHOULD KEEP IT THE WAY IT IS.... THANKS FLYINHOBBY24.....

trasceivers are only as good as the drivers who will listen to them.they cost a lot of money and are a waste of time.they do not make racing any safer...

I race asphalt and have unfortunately have had to buy both. As for the transponders, they are only as good as the people looking at the computer screen for the lineup... if you have some retard in the booth that cant seem to look at the screen and look at how they are lined up on the track and compare the two then you will spend just as much time going around under yellow as you do under green (i.e. Stockton99)
The Raceievers are more then half the cost of a transponder (you can get them for 99 dollars) and the tracks we race will let you just use a scanner you can get from radio shack as well and you can probably find those on eBay for cheep. I have seen situations where these have helped in a safety aspect but just like with the transponders, the whole checking the lineup thing will only be as efficient as the scorers in the booth.
Either way to be fair to anybody coming from out of town or that cant come up with the initial cost of either, the track needs to take it upon themselves to make the investment to have several of whichever (if any) they go with for rent.

Chris, I don't know where you are finding transponders for $140 but I believe you may be looking at AMB's motorcycycle or rc car units or m/c units from Trackside. If you do go to transponders AMB Trans X260 is the standard used everywhere I know of. The direct wire ones are $399 and the rechargeable ones run about $440, tracks usually rent them over here for $30 and a 30 unit charger for these runs a couple grand. Don't know what a track's cost is for equipment to police these. Raceceivers do run $ 120 and up depending on whether they come with ear buds or not, another $50 or so. Some tracks rent these also although it's like renting somebody's toothbrush. Check out www.HRPWorld.com or ioport Racing Supplies.com. To me, an unnecessary expense in these times.
