Probably should have stayed out of this, but the problem isn't wings or no wings. The problem is universal for each and ecery track still in existance. THE ECONOMY!!! America runs on its populace having "disposable" income. That is quickly dissapearing. Fans are pinching pennies just to make it and racers are doing the same. It effects all of us!!! The answer is to turn America's economy around!! If it isn't evident that America is going in the wrong direction then you are blind. I for one am sure that the Government spending and taxing MORE isn't the answer. CUT costs and let Americans keep more of their money and spend it themselves the way they want to spend it. Ok, off the soap box!

I don't think anyone is upset about there being a race on the 4th. It's just that they decided last minute to make it a points race. For those of us who actually care about points, that means a lot. I will now be out one nights worth of points because of this decision. It upset's me because I have made it a point to attend EVERY points race at Rattlesnake. I even dropped Lovelock from my schedule just to focus on points at Rattlesnake. Granted, we probably weren't going to win, but we were at least in tight contention.

OK, BEN KEEPING MY 1 CENT OUT BUT HERE GOES, FIRST OF ALL BEEN AT THIS TRACK SINCE 1983. EVERY 4th OF JULY HAS BEEN A POINTS RACE. THE ONLY THING THAT CHANGE THIS YEAR IS THE ADDING OF RACEING ON THE 3rd. THE 3rd WAS AT ONE TIME NOT GOING TO BE POINTS, BUT A BIG MONEY RACE AND WE COULD NOT GET THE SUPPORT FOR IT SO THE BOARD AND I AGREED TO MAKE THIS A POINTS NIGHT TOO!
I AGREE THE 2 DAY SHOWS ARE A PAIN IN THE RUMP BUT WE TRIED, AND WILL PROBIBLY GO BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS NEXT YEAR.
THANKS CHRIS

This race has been a points race since the schedule was printed and your waiting tell the week before to start bitching? Most of us plan a little in advance like 3 months ago. Here Here Rustback! A schedule is only as good as it is correct! Are times printed on them? A logical person would easily assume that races before a work day would start early to appease the masses, yes, the masses. Most of us do work and cannot change our schedules no matter how much advance notice we have. We certainly can't and we're self-employed!

Yes, they are a pain but we are racing. And that is why we are all here. I just don't agree with any show that is on a day where most people have to work the next morning. If it has to be done like that, then run the show earlier in the day. Now for R.S.R praise. I am WAY EXCITED about how you guys ALL kept the show going on Sunday. That was AWESOME (minus soaking the track before, both, the sprint heat and main). I'm sure you guys were just as fast on Monday, I just wasn't there to witness it. I hope you can make every show as smooth and great as you have the last 2. Thank You Aaron G #5 Sprint

My turn. I have read all these posts and agree with most. However I missed the one about how much the volunteers love two day shows. How about I try to paint a picture of how my 4th of July weekend went. Lets see, driver's arrive on race day around 3 or 4pm for that nights race. Prep their cars, tech, race, and can leave after their main. I started on Friday night after I got off work. (Yeah Aaron, we work too) Sorted out what had to be done and went home to a late dinner. Back to the track Sat morn at 6am. Painted the tower and concession stand, prepped the porta potties and wash stations, help clean up and prepared to rebuild the serving windows to help keep the workers cool inside. Breakfast at 11:00 am and went home to build the frames for the concession windows. Did I mention it was 100 degrees out or the three trips back to the house to get tools we forgot. At the track Sunday morning arount 7:00 am to finish what we didn't get done Sat. Finished in time for the races to start Sunday night only to hear a few folks complain about what we didn't get done. Home around 10:30pm and back again Monday at 6:00am to repair the lights that went out Sunday night. Took all day to re-wire turn one light pole in 103 degree heat. Work about an hour and then sit in the car/truck to cool off. No breakfast or lunch. Done in time for races to start on time and worked the track entrance all night. During the fireworks, ate a sandwich and drank half a beer, and went home. 10:00pm in the shower and up the next day for work. Yeah, we love two day shows and I am truly sorry that you had to miss a race and lost out on your points. Did I mention that I am also a driver and can't find the time to finish my car, but manage to find the time to work the track. I am one of a hand full (drivers) that work OUR track on a regular basis. I don't have anything against you or anyone else. I would like to see constructive ideas on this board instead of the constant "What's in it for me" stuff. Here's something for everyone. Next time you arrive at the track, think about all the people that work the track so you can race. From the pit gate to the check in girls, tech pad, security at the pit/stands gate, concession workers, and any others you come across, take the time to Thank Them for what they do. It's long over due. Now I'm off my soapbox.

Some of us have to travel to get there so to volunteer would be out of the question. Two day shows aren't that much of a problem but when you have to race on a work night and you're traveling... you get my drift. We all support the race track in our own different ways. It costs us several hundred dollars just to come out on a weekend for a one-night race. Yeah, you keep the place up and running... we just spend our hard earned money to race there. Vojunteers are not unappreciated by us and I think some of the drivers would have just liked the race on the 4th to be non-points.

Jerry, I am willing to help out on the track. Actually, I can help you with most of your electrical needs. I try and get to the track as early as possible so if you foresee any electrical problems then let me know. I am more than willing to help and fix those. I actually bring my electrical tools with me just in case every weekend I come out.
My number is on the sign in sheets. Retta has it. Also, do you guys pay to have the track graded? Or is that volunteer? Thanks Jerry. I'm sure I've met you before, but I can't put a face to your name. So if you have time next race, come and see me please. I would like to talk to you in person.
Thanks Aaron #5

Don't get me wrong, I'm not asking anyone to travel to work extra time on the track. I've done this sport a long time and know the expense of towing. My point is that too many driver's have a strange way of showing their support for the track. Some examples are: draining oil on the ground or leaving containers of oil/coolant in the pits, tires in the pits, tires thrown down the hill side, trash in their pits, bagged or not someone else has to dispose of it. When I was the track flagger, I can count on one hand how many driver's offered a word of thanks to me in the three seasons I flagged. Maybe I was that bad. I didn't think so. There were bad calls, however that happens at all tracks or any sport for that matter. We move on and learn from it. We all spend our money and time for the sport we love. However I feel that the true sportmanship that we all shared in the past is long gone. There isn't one race night that someone or several someones (ha) had something that didn't go their way. AND it's never their fault. It has to be the track or an offical. So begins the verbal beat down. Aaron, I will seek you out next race so we can meet and chat. We can always use help cause all the infield wiring has to be replaced. We are also looking into replacing the lights and adding more to finally light up the track the right way. If we plan ahead, and some driver's that can arrive early. we may get something done. That would be great. All I'm really asking is if you see someone working to support our sport, give them a wave, a thumbs up, or just plain let them know you like what their doing. Come on, lets all stop the constant complaining and just have some good ol fun, door to door racing and a good laugh.
Jerry

Sorry, one last item, I don't mean this just for Rattlesnake, I mean it for any track you race at. Or to any driver that tows a distance to race at your track. Its all about Sportmanship.
And racing on a work night. Not a good idea. However we learned from it. Have to re-think next year with the 4th being on a Tuesday. I do know a doctor who will give out notes to those who need them. HA. Just kidding, but I'm sure there is one out there.
And I do live in Fallon. About a mile and change from the track. Makes it nice when I forget tools and have to keep going back home. Has something to do with age.

Not going to ramble on and on...but I do have a couple of things to point out...
1) I thought the races went well both nights...smooth and fast! Way to go to all of us, if I do say so myself.
2) Early in this thread I saw someone ask us to start earlier on July 4th if it happens to be on a work night...well if you didn't notice, we already had to "stall" racing this year as we were going to fast and were going to be done with racing before dark and fans/drivers would have to sit around waiting for dark to see the fireworks...I understand that alot of us can't afford to take off of work the day after a race night, but please don't blame RSR for that...we have always had the fireworks that night and I don't think legally we can do it any other night.
3) Nothing against you #5, but alot of people say that they would like to volunteer or help out just to let them know when/where...well under most circumstances we post work days and projects on this board and discuss those issues at our board meetings. But when the actual time comes, it is the same handful of people that show up to work or help out and it has been that way for years!
4) Jerry is right, many hours are spent at that track, many people spend hours away from their families to prep the track, and when the drivers show up...what happens, no thanks, no appreciation, just moaning and groaning and arguing and fighting and complaining...
5) Honestly the only other suggestion I have is to shut the place down and let it go to waste! BUT I DON'T WANT TO SEE THAT AND I AM SURE ALOT OF PEOPLE DON'T EITHER...but we need support from the fans, drivers, volunteers, city, county, and local businesses to keep it going and fun for all!
I volunteer at the track in many different capacities and many others do too and we just ask for some appreciation and respect! So please grow up and be adults...it is just for fun!!!!!
